A new community croquet club is forming in Dunmore East, Co. Waterford — carrying on a lawn legacy that stretches back over a century. All ages and abilities welcome.

Croquet in Dunmore East — harbour with fishing boats and lighthouse, Co. Waterford

Dunmore East is one of Ireland's prettiest harbour villages — a working fishing port wrapped around a sheltered bay, with its candy-striped lighthouse, thatched cottages and cliff walks along the Waterford coast. It's also the spiritual home of croquet in our corner of the south-east.

A croquet legacy that goes back to 1924

Back in 1924, Lord Waterford dedicated Dunmore East Park specifically for croquet and tennis. A hundred years on, South East Community Croquet is picking up that thread — bringing the friendly, sociable game back to the village for a new generation of players, neighbours and visitors.

Looking for things to do in Dunmore East?

Between the beaches, the harbour and the coastal walks, Dunmore East is a wonderful place to spend time — and croquet is a brilliant addition to the list. It's a relaxed, welcoming way to meet people in the village, get outdoors and have a bit of fun on the lawn, whether you live here year-round or you're down for the summer. There's no fitness requirement and no experience needed: it's genuinely a game for everyone from 6 to 106.

Who the Dunmore East club is for

Everyone. Families looking for something to do together, retirees who fancy a sociable afternoon, teenagers, complete beginners and returning players — croquet is one of the few games where all of them compete as equals, because skill and tactics matter far more than strength. We provide the mallets and balls; you just bring yourself.
